Cant Block My Own Pageviews Blogger Stats

Many users have reported a problem with Blogger tracking their own stats, even know they have it set to not track the pageviews.  Many users point the finger of blame to Blogger because of this issue. But what users may not know is that stats can not be blocked if you have 3rd party cookies disabled or blocked.

Because Blogger stats are ran off of 3rd party cookies along with many other stat counting sites, this causes a problem when the users computer or browser is blocking tracking cookies. Blocking 3rd party cookies is not recommended not only because of Blogger stats but many other sites online uses these to recognize returning visitors.
  • But I don't want other sites to recognize me!
This is not the owner of the sites that recognize you but scripts and coding that uses this information from the tracking cookie to better help you. The ads on sites use the info from your search results to offer you advertisement that you maybe interested in. So in a way this is better for you and the owner of the site. Tracking cookies are not used to steal your personal info although a little info maybe giving none of this is anything important. So rest assured your passwords, log in's, credit card numbers, or address can not be attained through tracking cookies. The info obtained is simply used to better benefit everyone!

If your still worried about identity theft or something along those lines you can use Internet Explorer. It will allow you to select what sites to allow the cookies to be used on. Although this may not be the best idea for those who are web surfers. And you may also find it a pain to have to allow cookies in sites you select every time.
  • Indications that suggest I am blocking cookies.
In most cases you can tell if cookies are being blocked when you select the option "Don't track your own pageviews"  located in your Blogger stats. Save the setting to "". Restart your browser and check the settings again. In most cases you will notice the setting have been changed back to "Track my pageviews" . Although this is not always the case, this is a good indication that cookies are being blocked somewhere!
  • How do I enable cookies in my browser?
Depending on what browser you are using the setting may be different. Below I have listed a few help articles on how to block or enable cookies in your browser.
Another option that may be blocking cookies on your computer is your anti-virus. Anti-virus sometimes see tracking cookies as unwanted malware that is slowing down your browser. You normally can find settings somewhere in your anti-virus to stop the tracking cookies from being blocked. Some anti-virus maybe set to remove tracking cookies on scan while other block them altogether.  Depending on your anti-virus you may need to Google info on how to enable tracking cookies.
  • Examples of Google search input.
Norton anti-virus enable cookies
McAfee anti-virus cookies management
Stopzilla cookies

Anything along those lines should pull up resulted to help you will this issue.

I decided to do a experiment with my anti-virus to show you the effects of this in action.
While I was doing this experiment I noticed another problem. If you continuously change your stats to "Track Pageviews" and "Don't Track Pageviews" you may end up with a problem. Instead of the options changing back and forth, you end up with the options being unresponsive. So the option will be stuck on one or the other. To avoid this issue, you will need to clear your browser cookies.
