Backing Up Templates

Backing up your template is a must. Many users don't back up their template and make some miner changes and lose content or custom edits they have made in the past. Blogger does not keep records of your templates and edits. Their is no way Blogger can recover your previous templates or edits you have made. The Blogger help forums are full of people asking how to recover their old template. Their reasons are usually as followed.
  • They made some edits or tried to add something and messed up.
  • They changed templates and was not aware they would lose previous custom edits.
  • They upgraded to the new templates.
  • For some unknown reason something got messed up.
No matter the reason the answer is the same. Blogger can not restore your previous template.

When changing to a new template the widgets and all the gadgets carry over but everything else will not be. After you change your templates you will lose any and all colors and size for fonts. For most template this is a quick fix with a visit to the New Template Designer.

Its a good idea to get into backing up your template before making any changes no matter how big or small.

How To Back Up Your Template:

First you must go to your Dashboard. In your Dashboard you will see a Design option. Click on the Design option and you will be taken to Page Elements. In the sub menu you will see a list of other option such as.... Page Elements, Edit HTML , and Template Designer. Click the Edit HTML. At the top of the page you will see Download Full Template. Just click and download your template.

How To Upload a Backed Up Template:

You will follow the same rules above only once your in the Edit HTML screen you will click the Bowers option and find the template on your computer. Once you have found the template click to upload it.

Why can't I Just Copy The HTML Code:

Lots of users try to take a shortcut from downloading the template. They will copy the Full HTML code of the template and save it to a note pad. This is not a good habit to get into and this may not save all your custom edits. Some Edits may of been made through the expand widgets option. And they may not be saved along with it if you simply copy the HTML code.
