Sidebars Being Pushed Down (Blogger)

Their is a problem going around where  people report the sidebar being pushed to the bottom all of a sudden. This is normally caused by the div tags in a post not being closed properly.

To fix this problem you will first need to isolate which post is causing the problem. You can check this by selecting "View Post" on each of the post starting with the most recent.  The post that is causing the problem will have the sidebars out of place or pushed down. If the post you are viewing is not the problem then you can tell by the sidebars being display as normal or not out of place.

Once you have isolated the issue to the post(s) causing the problem, you will need to go into the post and edit it. Once you are in the post editor try switching back and forth between Edit HTML and Compose. This will normally place and missing div tags. After you are done Publish the post and view it. The sidebars should now display as normal. If on your homepage your  sidebars are still out of place then most likely their is another post that is causing it. Follow the instructions and isolate each post and fix them.

That isn't working for me and I don't know what's going on! I published a new post last night and now this morning my blog is all messed up. The top part is blocked out in blue, all my sidebars are at the bottom, I even erased the post I did last night and it didn't do anything. Help! Any ideas?

What is the blog you are referring to? I looked at the Love Food Laughter blog and it appears fine to me.

Thanks for telling me about the statements. However, when I click on edit HTML after going to design, I seem to only get the HTML code for the template and not the blog itself. I can't see the
statements there, but I can see them when I view the code of the blog. How can I access the HTML code of the blog itself and not just the template? Thanks

JM

You are looking in the wrong place. Their is a Edit HTML option in the Design tab. But that is not the correct Edit HTML I am talking about. You need to be inside the post its self. At the top right of the post editor their is Edit HTML and Compose. That is the Edit HTML I am referring to.

Hi AOF,

I had the same problem with widgets on the left not showing up in either IE or Firefox. I added a couple of external links in my post which caused the problem. Since I couldn't see any Divs (beginning or end) I had to just remove the links and both explorers are "fixed" in that regard. I would like to add links in the future so maybe you can help me there?
Also, I didn't do a check in IE until I read some of the other posts today. I notice the shadows behind my header and titles aren't there and the thin white box around the posts doesn't show on the right side. IE 8 (64 bit). Thanking you in advance for any help!

Welcome browser compatibility! This is a pain to say the least and W3 should enforce the standers for browsers a little better. If you have ever looked through template coding, you will see statements followed by segments of coding to correct IE. This has always been a problem and will probably always be a problem.

But anyway you don't want to hear that so..

I think the problem with your border is caused by IE slightly messing up the width of you blog sections.

Design--> Template Designer--> Advanced--> Add CSS--> Input code below.

.column-center-inner {
position: relative;
right: 5px;
}

You may have to adjust the 5px to get it just right.

As for the shadowing on the header that will never work in IE unless they update their coding they support.

Here you go straight form W3 the ones who set the standers to browsers.
http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/007/text-shadow.html

If you look at that link above in both IE and FF you will see what I mean.

I can't see my sidebar, either. I only have post on there. Can you tell me whats going on?

Either you don't have any sidebars which means you need to adjust your layouts.
Design--> Template Designer--> Layout

OR

You don't have any gadgets placed in your sidebar for them to display.

That worked for me, so thanks a lot.

I surfed for 45 minutes looking for the answer but and had to try lots of different search words.

What a difference a forgotten closing tag can make!
