To Many Post Displaying on Your Homepage

Having to many post displaying on your homepage is a huge problem that many do not realize. Enough for me to make a post just about this issue.

In my opinion this was a very big mistake on Google to ever allow users to display this many post on their homepage. And yet Google is well aware of the issues resulting in doing this as well. But with so many people yelling "We want more post on our homepage!" Google allowed users to now display up to 500 post, and yet users still want even more. Every time Blogger has a vote for new options this is one of the top ideas that I hope will never happen.

Why is this a problem:
Take a look at Google's homepage and notice the homepage does not even have a scroll bar. Now search for something, notice how the search results are limited to only a certain number per page. Notices the number is no where near 500.  One reason it is set up like this is for load speed. The more content the site has, the longer it will take to load. With longer load speeds users with slower connections or computers might not feel like waiting. This could also crash their browsers resulting in them probably never coming back to your site.

A Lot of people love to upload images in every post. Keep in mind with each image in your post, your making the load speed longer and size of your page higher. Images maybe cached by your browser but new comers to your site will not like waiting for the page to load.

Another problem with longer homepages is with Crawling and Indexing. Longer pages tends to mean more links. Crawlers can not properly index your post when they visit your site. Since your homepage is more likely to be crawled more then other pages in your blog this results with some post not being indexed.

Now we come to your homepage size as a file. Heavy or larger size can also be a problem for search engines. Your site again will not be properly indexed. Heavy pages are sometimes looked down on by search engines and can affect the placement of your blog in the search results. Another problem with heavy pages is a lot of online tools that can be used to help you maintain your site will not work with them. You could pay for a account with these tools but who wants to do that when you can use if for free.

This next one is a theory of mine but yet has been somewhat proven by results. The template designer option has been known to show bx error codes when people have homepages that are to long. Rather this is caused by to much content or what I do not know. But I do know cutting down on the number of post displaying on their homepage has fixed many Template Designer Bx Code's.The template designer has also been know to freeze up or lag when people have longer homepages.

When is it Alright to Have Long Homepages?:
If you only use your blog for personal user and no one else can see it. This means your blog is locked to others and the search engines can not access it. This is to say you are not having issues using the template designer and your browser does not crash or freeze up when viewing your blog.
